Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
Daniel 9:25
There are 2 time periods described here, and they start at the commandment to restore and build Jerusalem.
- The first time period is 7 weeks = 49 Years
- The second time period is 62 Weeks = 434 Years
- Combined they equal 483 Years
The commandment to restore and build Jerusalem is in Ezra chapter 7, and occurred about ~457 B.C. So we now have our starting point.
49 Years takes us to ~408 B.C., when the restoration of Jerusalem was completed. You can read about this and the dedication of the restored wall, gates, etc., in Nehemiah chapter 12 starting in verse 27.
The remaining 62 Weeks, or 434 Years, takes us from ~408 B.C to ~27 A.D. (there is no zero year).
This is the date Jesus was baptized by John and anointed by the Holy Spirit as a dove. When Jesus began his ministry he stated that the “time is fulfilled”. What time? The prophetic time of Daniel chapter 9:
Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
Mark 1:14,15
And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
