What happened in 1798 that gave the papacy an apparent mortal wound?
In 1798, Napoleon’s General Berthier went to the Vatican. Pope Pius was taken prisoner and exiled to France. He died eighteen months later in Valence.
This should have been the end of this false church and state persecuting system of the papacy (the first beast of Revelation). Unfortunately, the bible tells us this power will survive to persecute the saints again at the very end:
And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
Revelation 13:12
And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
Revelation 13:14
And as we know, the papacy is alive and well today. The mortal wound has been healed. The world is looking to the Pope as the moral leader of the world. Which means we’re very close to the end now.
