1. The Two Witnesses Represent God’s Word
“And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.”
Revelation 11:3
The Old and New Testaments have testified about God throughout history.
“Sackcloth” signifies mourning or a time of hardship, which aligns with periods where God’s Word has been suppressed or persecuted (by the Papacy of course from the 500’s to the 1700’s, when reading the bible, or even owning one, was forbidden and punished).
In Revelation 11:4, the two witnesses are described as two olive trees and two lampstands, symbolically standing before God:
These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
Revelation 11:4
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105
The two witnesses symbolize Scripture.
