What happens when we die?

When we die, we simply enter a state that the bible describes as a sleep. We do not go immediately to Heaven.

In addition, there has to be an investigative judgement first before we receive our reward or punishment.

Only Enoch, Moses, Elijah, and a few privileged other human beings are alive in Heaven right now.

We do not live again until Jesus returns to this Earth at the end of 6000 years of Earth’s history.

And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

2 Peter 3:4

But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

Daniel 12:13

So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

1 Kings 2:10

For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

Acts 2:34

David and Daniel did not go to Heaven when they died, as is clearly indicated by the texts above. If anyone should be there, they certainly should be. David and Daniel are both waiting for Jesus to return and raise them up, at the last day. That’s when those of us who have been faithful to God will receive our reward.

The immortality of the soul and going immediately to Heaven or Hell is false doctrine. It started at the tree of life when Satan told Eve she wouldn’t die and has been perpetuated ever since.
