And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
Daniel 9:26
After the 2nd time interval of 62 weeks (~27 A.D), the Messiah will be cut off (die on the cross), but not for Himself (for the sins of everyone else).
The people of the prince that shall come (the Roman army led by Titus) shall destroy Jerusalem and the temple (this occurred in 70 A.D.).
And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
Daniel 9:27
Here is the final week of the 70. He (the Messiah) will confirm the covenant – the New Covenant of the Atonement through shedding of His blood and faith in His sacrifice – for one week (7 Years).
In the middle of the week (3.5 Years, or around ~31 A.D.), He (the Messiah) shall cause the sacrifice and offerings to cease. When Jesus died, this is exactly what happened. There was no longer a need for the Jewish sacrificial system, which was only pointing to Him.
At the end of that final week (another 3.5 Years later), with the stoning of Stephen, the Jewish nation’s favored status was removed and the gospel went to all the world.
And the desolations and abominations (destruction of Jerusalem and the temple, Romans standing in the most holy place) occurred due to the Jewish nation’s rejection of Jesus.
